The Making Of Pinocchio2021
By Cade & MacAskill, produced by Artsadmin
The Making Of Pinocchio is a two-hander set inside a fictional film studio, where the story of Pinocchio becomes a way of telling Rosana Cade and Ivor MacAskill’s own story of Ivor’s gender transition – a piece about love, transformation and telling your own truth. Live performance and on-screen footage play out side by side.
I designed the sound for the show, operated sound and AV on tour alongside PJ Davy, and co-designed the captions with Daniel Hughes.
Premiered at Take Me Somewhere, Glasgow, in 2021 and has since toured widely across the UK, Europe, North America and Australia – including Battersea Arts Centre/LIFT, Kampnagel, Festival TransAmériques, Brisbane Festival, Bristol Old Vic/Mayfest and Festival d’Automne in Paris.
Winner of the Grand Prix at Kontrapunkt International Theatre Festival, 2024.
Performed by Rosana Cade, Ivor MacAskill, Moa Johansson and Ray Gammon. Set, props and costume by Tim Spooner; lighting by Jo Palmer; cinematography by Kirstin McMahon and Jo Hellier.
Funded by Creative Scotland, Arts Council England and Rudolf Augstein Stiftung.
